Santiago de Chile, June 16 (Prensa Latina) Chilean organizations have
called for a celebration on June 25 of the 99th anniversary of the birth
of President Salvador Allende, killed in 1973 by the fascist bombing of
the Palacio de la Moneda.

Under the theme Towards the Centennial of the Birth of Allende, the
organizers called for activities in the country and abroad to remember
the tireless revolutionary fighter.

The document is signed by 18 former ministers of the Popular Unity
government, the Communist Party and Christian Left and several national
laureates of literature.

Organizers say permanent homage through 2008 will be paid to Allende
"who was a universal symbol of democratic and free thought of the
Chilean people."

The document recalls the historical legacy of the former president in
favor of popular emancipation and for Latin American unity and integration.
