Subject: One Year to Allende Birth Centennial
Santiago, Chile, Jun 25 (Prensa Latina) Over 600 Chilean organizations
and notables in Santiago convoked a birth centennial commemoration next
year, for late President Salvador Allende, who was overthrown by
Pinochet s military coup in 1973.

In Tuesday's rally at the capital Deputy Chamber and before hundreds of
former political and intellectual leaders, the coordinating committee
said the celebration will go in depth into the statesman s life and work.

We want the country and other parts of the world to promote Allende s
revolutionary, uniting, and internationalist legacy, because his efforts
were devoted to create an anti-imperialist project beyond the Chilean
borders, it informed.

At today's celebration of the 99th birth anniversary of the Unidad
Popular party s hero, representatives of social sectors highlighted the
socialist leader s ethical scope and his sense of justice at the service
of the downtrodden.

National Literature Award winner Jose Miguel Varas stressed that Allende
will be always remembered as the major leader in Chile s history,
because he made important changes, such as nationalization of copper and
other measures.

National Rural Indigenous Women Association General Secretary Alicia
Muņoz reminded that Allende gave priority to benefiting excluded native
people and the rights of Mapuche women and children.
