Havana, June 19 (acn) Socialism in opposition to Capitalism was the main
course at the table of the 19th Conference of Philosophers and Social
Scientists from Cuba and the United States underway at the University of
Havana from June 18-22.
The discussions, aimed at reaching common understanding of today's
world, were encouraged by talks on public policies, the creation of a
new state, and reflections on neo-liberal globalization.
Third world evils were named by lecturers and researchers attending from
the United States, Canada and Cuba.
Social experts shared the marked difference between the concept of
nation-state in capitalist countries and in Cuba, and discoursed on the
challenges faced by Venezuela and other Latin American and Caribbean
countries undergoing social change.
The 25 year old event also includes theoretical discussions on culture
and religion, feminism, education, and the concept of empire inside and
outside the United States. No less important will be the exchanges with
ordinary Cuban people.
